Arbeidsgruppa: Mellom himmel & hav VII: Uvissas tilstand / Organizers: Between Sky & Sea VII: Flying Blind

Me er ei gruppe på sju kunstnarar og to fotografar/kunstnarar som organiserer. Me er frå regionen, kunstmiljøet i Bergen og i frå Danmark, og sørgjer for rammevilkåra for dei inviterte gjestane. Samtidig vil me vera deltakarar i forelesingar, diskusjonar og turar under heile perioden. Her kjem litt informasjon om kven me er.

We are an organizing team of seven artists and two photographers/artists at its core. We are from the region, the art scene in Bergen and from Denmark, and provide the framework for the invited guests. At the same time, we all will participate in lectures, discussions and fieldtrips throughout the two weeks. Her is some information about who we are.

Terese Longva flytta i 2017 tilbake til Skuløya/Flemsøy, der ho vaks opp. I 2020 vart Longva kunstnarresidens (LK) etablert. LK utvikla seg frå å vere ei forlenging av kunstnarpraksisen hennar til eit kunstprosjekt i seg sjølv. Prosjektet samspelar med lokalsamfunnet, regionale aktørar, det offentlege og private og fagfeltet nasjonalt og internasjonalt. Samnemnar er tilkopling, kontekst, omgjevnader og transmisjon av affekt. Framandgjering, einsemd og temperaturen i verda har gjort det klart at behovet for å bygge nye fellesskap og møteplassar er prekært.

In 2017, Terese Longva moved back to Skuløya/Flemsøy, where she grew up. In 2020, Longva artist in residency (LK) was established. LK evolved from being an extension of her artistic practice to an art project in itself. The project interacts with the local community, regional actors, public and private sectors, and the professional field nationally and internationally. Common themes are connection, context, surroundings, and transmission of affect. Alienation, loneliness, and the temperature in the world have made it clear that the need to build new communities and meeting places is precarious.

Rita Marhaug (f. 1965), har delteke på ei rekkje utstillingar og performancekunst-festivalar i inn og utland. I dag er ho freelancekunstnar etter 12 år som professor ved Kunst og designhøgskolen i Bergen (2001-13). Ho arbeider med teikning, grafikk og kunstnarbok, fotografi og video, performance og installasjon. Verkserien Norwegian Liquid har vore ei klår line med mange kapitel, som fotografi, video og performance. Her er det vår karbondrivne økonomi som er tema for ulike visuelle undersøkingar.  

Rita Marhaug (b. 1965), has participated in a number of exhibitions and performance art festivals in Norway and abroad. Today she is a freelance artist after 12 years as a professor at the Bergen Academy of Art and Design (2001-13). She works with drawing, printmaking and artist’s books, photography and video, performance and installation. Norwegian Liquid, her series of works, has been a clear line with many chapters made of photo, video and performance. Here, our carbon-driven economy is the theme for various visual investigations.

Sabine Popps kunstnariske praksis er ei utforsking av bestemde geografiske område, og menneskes forhold til dei gjennom arbeid og daglege rutinar. Arkivmateriale, kamerabasert observasjon, og dialog er fletta saman med kropslig erfaring ved involvering i fysiske prosessar og performative øvingar. Arbeidet er ei undersøking av rom eller landskap som økologiar av eit utvida mentalt, sosialt og fysisk felleskap. Sabine er ei av drivkreftene i utviklinga av Longva kunstnarresidas.

Sabine Popp’s artistic practice is an exploration of specific geographical places, and human beings’ relation to them through work and daily routines. Archive material, camera based observation and dialogue is brought in conjunction with corporeal experience through involvement with physical processes and performative exercises. Her work deals with spaces and landscapes as ecologies of an extended mental, social and material community. Sabine is one of the driving forces in the development of Longva AiR.

Lillian Karin Bjørdal er ein nyetablert kunstnar frå Ørsta, som bur i Ålesund. Ho uttrykker seg gjennom skulpturar og installasjonar. Forteljingane som ligg litt under overflata interesserer henne, det som ikkje blir sagt, hemmelighaldet og familietragediene som ingen snakkar om. Lillian Karin leitar etter uttrykk som kan få fram desse forteljingane. Ho set lys på område ho meiner det blir, eller har vorte gjort urett. Objekta ho jobbar med er henta frå dagleglivet, og med endringar i form og overflate på pinnestolar skaper ho kunst med rom for undring, utforsking og debatt.    

Lillian Karin Bjørdal is a newly established artist from Ørsta, who lives in Ålesund. She expresses herself through sculptures and installations. The stories that lie just below the surface interest her, what is not said, the secrets and the family tragedies that no one talks about. Lillian Karin searches for expressions that can bring out these stories. She sheds light on areas she believes are being, or have been, wronged. The objects she works with are taken from everyday life, and with changes in the form and surface of wicker chairs she creates art with room for wonder, exploration and debate.

Malene Halkjær Pedersens liv og kunstnariske virke finn stad på øya Anholt midt i Kattegat. Den kunstnariske praksisen er samanvoven med levekår og daglege gjeremål i eit lite, isolert samfunn. Å bevega seg i eit sårbart landskap og samhandla med andre livsformer, å sanka og behandla mat og materiale, å bidra til den daglege drifta og til å halda oppe det heilårlege samfunnet, å invitera inn og reisa ut. Dei kunstnariske uttrykka er skulpturelle verk, trykk, teikningar, installasjonar, performance, og dessutan natur- og kulturformidling og undervisning.

Malene Halkjær Pedersen´s life and artistic work takes place on the island of Anholt in the middle of the Kattegat. The artistic practice is intertwined with living conditions and daily chores in a small, isolated community. To move around in a vulnerable landscape and interact with other life forms, to forage and process food and materials, to contribute to the daily operations and to the maintenance of the year-round community, to invite in and travel out. The artistic expressions are sculptural works, prints, drawings, installations, performances, as well as nature and cultural communication and teaching.

Henrik Koppen (f. 1990) er ein kunstnar basert i Velsvik i Volda kommune som jobbar med performance, skulptur, video og musikk. Han har utdanning frå Kunsthøgskulen i Bergen og Iceland University of the Arts. Arbeida hans tek ofte form av poetiske ritualer der han kombinerer element frå religion, mytologi, historie og naturvitskap. Gjennom praksisen sin undersøker han relasjonen vår til verda sin materialitet, og set spørsmålsteikn ved narrativa og konvensjonane som former røynda vår. 

Henrik Koppen (b.1990) is a Norwegian artist based in Velsvik in Sunnmøre working with performance art, sculpture, video and music. He holds a BA from Bergen Academy of Art and Design and an MA from Iceland University of the Arts. Koppen’s works often take the form of poetic rituals where he combines elements from religion, mythology, history and science. Through his performance art practice he seeks to explore our relation to our environments and the materiality of the world, questioning the narratives and conventions that shape our reality.

I kunstnarskapet sitt forheld Marit Tunestveit Dyre seg til samfunnet og dei oppdagingane ho gjer. Ho bruker observasjon og vandring aktivt som arbeidsmetodar, og prosesserer innhenta inntrykk metodisk og intuitivt. Observasjonane leier til fotografiske prosjekt, tek form som tekst, blir brukt i dialog og inspirerer til performative og skulpturelle verk. Tekstilmaterialets politiske og sosialt funderte bruksområde er av interesse, og ho erfarer ei metaforisk kopling mellom oppbygginga til tekstilen av rennings- og innslagstrådar og den intrikate samfunnsveven.

In her art, Marit Tunestveit Dyre relates to society and the discoveries she makes. She actively uses observation and wandering as working methods, and processes the impressions she obtains methodically and intuitively. The observations lead to photographic projects, take form as text, are used in dialogue and inspire performative and sculptural works. The political and socially conditioned uses of textile materials are of interest, and she experiences a metaphorical connection between the textile’s structure of warp and weft threads and the intricate fabric of society.

Nayara Leite (f. 1989, ho/henne) er ein brasiliansk kunstnar og forfattar basert i Bergen, Noreg. Ho bruker personlege forteljingar, politiske nyheiter og arkivmateriale som kjeldemateriale, og skildrar realitetane til LGBTQ+-miljøet i Brasil, Noreg og i ein global kontekst. Nayara arbeider primært på tvers mellom tekst, performance, film, fotografi og installasjon. Ho har ei mastergrad i fotojournalistikk og dokumentarfotografi frå London College of Communication.

Nayara Leite (b. 1989, she/her) is a Brazilian artist and writer based in Bergen, Norway. Using personal narratives, political news, and archives as source material, she portrays the realities of the LGBTQ+ community in Brazil, Norway, and in a global context. Nayara works primarily across text, performance, film, photography, and installation. She holds an MFA from the Bergen Art Academy and an MA in Photojournalism & Documentary Photography from the London College of Communication.

Mateo Christensen (1997) er ein filmskaper og fotograf som he samarbeida med visuelle kunstnarar og musikarar. Kunstnarar hyre ham inn til deiras prosjekt, der han bistå som ein filmatisk fortolkar og bidra med å gi form og uttrykk til prosjektaene. Han har samarbeidet fleire gonger med Karin Augusta Nogva på «Fuglevokteren», samt med Liv Dysthe Sønderland på «Du hvisker meg ikke ut». Han har produsert tre musikkvideoar for Lena Nymark og gjere kunstdokumentasjon i både video og foto. Han har tidlegare gått på einar Granum kunstfagskule, med spesialisering innan teikning.

Mateo Christensen (1997) is a filmmaker and photographer who has worked with visual artists and musicians. Artists hire him in to their project, where he act as a filmatic interpreter and contribute in giving the projects their form and expression. He has collaborated with Karin Augusta Nogva in numerous times in “Fuglevokteren”. As well with Liv Dysthe Sønderland in “Du hvisker meg ikke ut». He has produced three music videos for Lena Nymark, and he does documentation of art pieces in video and photo. He has studied at Einar Granum Art college and specialized in drawing.
